Pakistan is an involuntary nation of people. The British colonial rulers and Indian independence politicians had been inciting the population for years. Hindus and Muslims, who had long been neighbours and friends, turned their backs on each other and no longer wanted to live together because their political and religious leaders no longer wanted them to. Their refusal was expressed when India was partitioned in August 1947.
